Kia ora! Today we had to make a trading card, it had to be a sea creature or someone who goes to the sea very often. I made Moana! It was extreamly hard to make because of her style and all of the patterns. Here’s a little Fun Fact about Moana! Moana was chosen by the ocean because of her selfless act of saving a sea turtle when she was a toddler. The ocean, which is portrayed as a sentient being, was drawn to Moana’s empathy and bravery. It saw in her the potential to restore Te Fiti’s heart and lift Te Kā’s curse, thus bringing back the era when Moana’s ancestors would sail across the sea to find islands, a time the ocean loved and longed to relive.

  1. Kia ora Adara,
I appreciated the backstory about Moana and the information about the ocean recognising her act of kindness and empathy. I was also drawn to the style you have used to create your drawing. I can see you have taken time to include the details, especially the Tuiga and dress. An awesome start to your Summer Learning Journey Adara, I am going to award bonus points for this post too. Remember to set up your badges board to collect your badges too!

  2. Kia ora Adara,
My name is Mrs Williams and I work for the Manaiakalani Network.
I’m also the designer of the Summer Learning Journey Cartoon Collectibles task that you completed! I really enjoying seeing your drawing as well as reading all the interesting information you shared about Moana!

I especially enjoyed reading about the portrayal of the ocean as a sentient being – that is such a beautiful way to describe it and helps me understand the movie more, which I’ve only seen parts of! Do you have other favourite ocean themed movies?
Have a great time doing some more of the Summer Learning Journey tasks!
    Have a wonderful summer,

  3. Kia ora Adara, I really like the back story of Moana and I love the picture, but a helpful comment is if you could put the name on the Disney create card. That is all have a great day!
